SOHO has detected more than 60 previously unknown comets of which some has had its last journey when rushing to the Sun.
This image shows the already known Hale-Bopp comet. A huge hydrogen cloud around the comet is to be seen in this SWAN image. An insert photo shows the visible comet and the brightest part of its tail. The hydrogen cloud was 100 million km wide. The yellow circle in the lower right angle describes the size of the Sun.
